From Golfing for Glen to Geezers and Goddess!

courteous of Willamette Week

OK, Lisa. In typical Dr Wort style we'll post your Geezer and Goddess Fundraiser! ;-}

A fundraiser will be held at Horse Brass Pub on Sunday, July 12th at 5 pm. Proceeds will go to the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation, a non-profit organization that creates scholarships to send Northwest brewers to brewing school so they can hone their craft. Dr Wort always gets a chuckle at this scholarship. Send a professional brewer to school? Shouldn't they have gone to school before they became a professional brewer? What kind of education do our current NW brewers posses? The concept of taking some pimple faced mop pusher and showing him how to "flip the right switches" and calling him a brewer (ala McMenamins?) doesn't fly in our book! :-O From what we know about brewing and brewing science, it's far more than 'flipping the right buttons.' ;-} BTW, Glen was a graduate of the Siebel Institute in Brewing Science. In any event, I think we definitely need to get brewers educated in how to brew beer correctly!? Even that doesn't sound right!

The shindig is being toted as "159 Years Young(er)," being that Don Younger, Lisa Morrison and Scott Willis all have birthdays on July 11th and their ages total to 159. Lisa states, "You will have to ply them with beers to find out how old each one of them is separately." I think they all can buy they're own "F"ing beers, the Doctor personally doesn't give a rats ass how old any of them are! ;-}

Special beers of the event will include:

Full Sail Saison
Double Mountain Pils

Hopworks Urban Brewery Cascadian Dark Ale

Laurelwood Green Elephant

Terminal Gravity Triple
Walking Man Sasquatch Legacy (09 – Belgian IPA)
Hair of the Dog – TBA

and at least one Mystery Beer

Good old Don Younger will not be attendance. Apparently he's on vacation in England where he can still smoke in most of the bars and get a decent cask pulled beer? Don't worry, you won't miss Don's presence, they'll be providing photo opportunities with a cardboard Don and a Pin-the-Tail on the Don-key. I can't believe I'm posting this!!! What no frickin birthday hats and noise makers?? Can this get any cheesier??

So! If you're all interested in a party or just another excuse to drink (which should fit the bill for most of you), here's yet another reason to spend money on beer and get a photo with a piece of cardboard that looks like Don Younger..... Can I get a picture with a cardboard Raquel Welch? She's probably older than Don, but still better looking!

OK.... Can Dr Wort have a fundraiser birthday party? We can invite all walks of beer life and call it Dr Wort's 'SNOBS AND SLOBS' Fest and Fundraiser." Collect money from all Portland drinkers! Serve PABST for the tasteless Hipsters, Keystone for the Low Brow and quality local beers for all the rest. All proceeds go to higher brewing education for the SNOBS and Alcohol Awareness for the SLOBS.
